Botox for Migraines
Botox can be used to treat chronic migraines. The Botox is injected around pain fibers that are involved in headaches. Once injected, the neurotoxins enter the nerve endings around where it is injected and block the release of chemicals involved in pain transmission, preventing the activation of pain networks located in the brain. Botox is not recommended for patients who experience fewer than 15 headache days a month.
How long does the procedure take?
The procedure usually lasts about 20 minutes.
What should I expect before my treatment?
At Suburban Healthcare Laser Aesthetics and Medspa, Botox treatments are only administered by our doctors. Additionally, the treatment area is numbed before the Botox is injected, decreasing the pain felt during the injection.
