What Does it Mean to be Medically Ready for Travel?

Are You Ready for Your Vacation?

Vacations are times to explore and discover new, never before seen, things with family or friends, but in order to prevent most medical concerns, you must be medically ready for travel. Those new places come with many health risks. Having the proper vaccination done will help all individuals avoid those potential harms.

These vaccinations include those necessary for everyone in the United States. The recommended routine vaccinations vary from age:

  • Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis)
  • HPV

  • Pneumococcal
  • Meningococcal
  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B

Common Vaccinations to Take Based on Popular Location of Travel

There are many popular vacation areas, such as India, China, Europe, tropical Islands, and many more. These few vaccinations are taken in addition to the all-important routine vaccinations

  • Typhoid: This disease is usually found in contaminated food and water supply.
  • Yellow Fever: This disease is spread through mosquito bites. About 15% of people develop serious illnesses from this disease.
  • Rabies: Considered to be a deadly disease that is common in the saliva of infected animals.

Why Get Vaccinations?

Vaccinations are designed to prevent the patient from contracting the specified disease the vaccine was made for. Vaccines are made of weaker or non-living forms of a particular disease, which allows the real disease, if contracted, to think the host has already been infected, when in reality, it has not.
